We are told to be many things. Employers and bosses demand strict and sometimes unreasonable adherence to deadlines and society tells us we can have curves and fat but only in the “right” places. We are told that our value lies in our appearance and in the material things that we own. If we have these things, then society tells us that only then will we be attractive.

But happiness and confidence are what makes a person beautiful. The joy radiating from someone’s soul in a dark and depressing culture is what draws others to a person. We don’t need to dress all fancy, we don’t need layers and layers of makeup, and we certainly don’t need brand-name clothing.

After all, a smile is the best thing you can wear.
